Susan Torroella is ArmadaHealth’s CEO & President. Susan was previously EVP of Wellness Corporate Solutions where she oversaw all strategic partnerships, direct clients, program management and operations.

Prior to this, she was President of FrontierMEDEX Medical Assistance Services, where she oversaw the delivery of both healthcare prevention services and treatment coordination for employers’ workforces. Susan served as Vice President of United Healthcare International following the acquisition of FrontierMEDEX. Susan is the former president of the Healthcare Business Women’s Association (HBA) and founder of the Mid-Atlantic chapter of the HBA. She is on the Board of the American Heart Association and Executive Leadership of the Go Red for Women Mission in Maryland, which is devoted to reducing cardiovascular disease for women.

After graduating from Franklin & Marshall College with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Susan earned an MBA from the Thunderbird School of International Management, where she was valedictorian of her class. She has also attended INSEAD (France) and Wharton’s executive management programs.

Known as a dynamic and successful leader, Torroella has won multiple awards such as FORTUNE Small Business /Wall Street Journal“Boss of the Year,” The Daily Record’s “Top 100 Women in Maryland,” Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist,” and PharmaVoice’s “100 Most Inspiring Leaders in Life Sciences.”

Why is this happening? Let’s start by defining the “right doctor”. The process of accessing healthcare, specifically, the right doctor for a specific condition, is in the stone ages. Physicians are grouped into broad specialties, but tend to have a fairly narrow sub-specialization or “sweet spot” where their experience, training and passion coincide – this is when the “right” doctor is treating a patient.

I’m referring to the denial of the problem that US consumers face when trying to access healthcare. In case you haven’t been paying attention, we’ve been sweeping under the rug serious problems in our healthcare system. Access problems are pervasive and arguably more dangerous than in any other industry. Not only are consumers having trouble affording healthcare, physically getting to healthcare, knowing where to go for healthcare, but once they are in the system, they aren’t receiving the right care from the right provider.
